Surreal. For writing a book about racism and homophobia in Britain’s police and challenging them in the courts the Queen has awarded me an MBE. The Force never apologised but this IS an acknowledgement by the State of the pain and hurt caused. I’m sure my mum has a little smile🎖
Thanks to Granta for republishing this today. Despite a global pandemic, the past year has shown how there’s still a long way to go in the fight against racism, homophobia and sexism in our institutions and society 📚

Hello, it's been a while! Lots to update on but meantime, I'm honoured that next month Granta will publish the second edition of my first book Forced Out in traditional 'mass' paperback and in June (on my mum's birthday) I will be amongst 99 other Black Britons #StillBreathing 📚
