For some time now, I’ve been getting emails from banks I’m with asking me to ‘log-in’ to my account online for a number of reasons… irregular transactions, confirmation of this and confirmation of that.
As much as I wanted to I resisted, and especially when the emails had many spelling mistakes and awfully designed layouts! 😮
My detective suspicions (as if I needed to be one) came to fruition the other day, when I received an email from Tesco Bank asking me to do the same as my other two banks had and log into my online account.
The problem with this email was that, I don’t even bank with Tesco?
I mean if you’re going to try to scam money off me (which I haven’t got by the way), at least get the bank right. This is basic theft technique.
I’m hoping the real Tesco Bank and others are doing something about these emails, as I’m thinking there might be some people out there who will either (1) log into their real bank as a result of these type of emails or (2) try to log in to a bank like Tesco which they are not even a customer of.
One is to prevent theft, the other embarrassment.
I have copied the email below as sent to me, and will send this blog on to Tesco.com for their enjoyment.
BEWARE of scams, and NEVER log in to your account(s) online when asked to do so by email or indeed give your details when asked to after receiving a telephone call.
You should ALWAYS be the one who starts any action with your bank, as this way will prevent you being scammed.
The email below appears standard for all the banks, with just the name of the bank and its logo being changed.
