Earlier this evening, I was minding my own business and having a Starbucks, when an email message ‘popped-up’ on my mobile telephone.
The first word I saw was ‘nigger’, and at first I thought I had misread it. I hadn’t.
The message was accompanied with the attached ‘British Hate Flag’, so it was NO mistake.
It was from a woman in Liverpool (my hometown ironically) saying…
“my fella said…you are a fucking nigger and fucking batty boy and fucking scum”
Charming, I thought… scum?
HATE is so 21st Century. I remember when people insulted you to your face, now it’s all social media!
All forms of hatred are bad, not just for those it is directed at, but for society in general.
This was my ‘first’ hate mail, but I doubt with the subjects I write about, it will be my last!
I’m not one for preaching, but Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best…
The ultimate measure of man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy!
My own saying is ‘what doesn’t break you, makes you!’. I was going to say ‘I am what I am’ – but, I didn’t want to insult Dame Shirley!
