Why Challenging Wrongdoing Is Important

Crossing the Police LineThe past week or so, I’ve been thinking about why I did what I did and continue to do in challenging discrimination within the Metropolitan Police.

More so, because I still await the judgment of the Employment Appeal Court.

People too only recently have asked me what I want/hope to achieve and includes former colleagues within the Greater Manchester Police, in My Fight for Justice.

I didn’t plan to write this particular blog post, but with the recent high-profile events of the death of Margaret Thatcher along with the 24th anniversary of the Hillsborough Football Disaster and the Marathon Bombings in Boston, United States – I’m once again reminded that, life is so precious and short.

We really are only here once, and as I often tell myself… ‘life isn’t a dress rehearsal’.

Whatever it was or is, I’m passionate that we all have to do our bit whilst we are here to make things better for others.

Does there have to be more of a reason than this?

I know I didn’t plan to fight powerful institutions like Scotland Yard and News Corporation owners of The Sun newspaper, but I am – so, just dealing with it.

I guess like the families of those who died at Hillsborough and in-time those of the deceased of the Boston Marathon Bombings, my overall aim has been to seek ‘justice’ through accountability. So that, what happened in my case, doesn’t happen again.

It really is that simple.

There doesn’t have to be a more sinister reason, for going against the norm and Crossing the Police Line. Sometimes, what you see IS what you get.

After becoming unwell through discrimination, the Metropolitan Police denied me the right to resolve the matters I felt were discriminatory and caused me a detriment. If I didn’t challenge this, I would have left a bad legacy for those after me who too may suffer racism, homophobia and/or bullying etc in the future.

I did what I thought and still believe was the right thing, something which I am at peace with.

Maybe others, have to look at their conscious.

This has been a… still feel the same, ‘View from the Bottom’.
